UK qualifications for future Canadian leaders

-

Nancy Southern, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of ATCO, and Lord Callanan, UK Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, recently announced the Chevening/ATCO Scholarship, which will be open to aspiring Canadian leaders to study a qualified master’s degree, at any UK university which includes energy transition and sustainability.

Between mid-September to mid-November 2023, applications for the Chevening/ATCO Scholarship will be open to study in the 2024/25 academic year, with applications to be submitted via Chevening.org/apply.

The UK Government’s Chevening scholarships – of which the Chevening/ATCO Scholarship will be a part – are presented to individuals from all backgrounds who can prove that they have the commitment and skills needed to create a positive change, and proves how a UK master’s degree will help them to do that. The scholarship offers full financial support for scholars to study for any appropriate master’s degree at any UK university whilst also gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

Globally for the 2023/2024 academic year, there are more than 1,400 scholarships on offer. The program’s alumni include 20 current or former heads of state or government officials. In Canada, notable alumni include Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy and Melanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

“International support is more important than ever since we work to strengthen our energy security, and struggle to meet our net zero goals in government and industry,” UK Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance Lord Callanan said during his official visit to Alberta where he announced the partnership with ATCO.

Chevening has built an international community of leaders committed to work together to handle major global issues, such as the required energy transition.

“I am happy that Nancy Southern and the fantastic ATCO team are partnering with Chevening to provide a chance for the next generation of Canadian leaders to experience high quality education at our top-class UK universities,” Lord Callanan added.

Scholarships will be open to scholars wishing to study a Master’s course, the Chevening/ ATCO Scholarship will be open, which can be clearly linked to the advancement of the energy transition and sustainability; the development of wealthy societies, Indigenous relations and reasonable partnerships or affordable housing and community spaces.

Chevening scholarships were awarded to two Canadians in 2023 studying for master’s degrees at the University of Oxford and University College London. For more detailed information on the wider eligibility criteria and scholarship specifications, visit Chevening.org/scholarships.
