21 June. In the meantime, the next step in the Roadmap out of lockdown is set for 17 May, when restrictions on foreign travel is expected to be eased, but not lifted entirely. Ahead of the deadline, PM Johnson struck a cautious tone, noting that Britain does not intend to see an inflow of the virus from elsewhere.
“We do want to do some opening up on May the 17th, but I don’t think that the people of this country want to see an influx of disease from anywhere else. I certainly don’t,” he said. “We’ve got to be very, very tough, and we’ve got to be as cautious as we can.”
According to The Cabinet Office, the government will also look to continue easing restrictions on seeing friends and family from 17 May, “allowing people to decide on the appropriate level of risk for their circumstances”. This means that up to six people from two households can continue to meet indoors. Although most restrictions on outdoor gatherings are expected to be lifted, however, gatherings of over 30 people will remain prohibited.
In terms of business activities, most businesses in “all but high risk sectors” will be able to reopen under this phase, including the reopening of indoor hospitality. Other indoor locations which would open up on 17 May include indoor entertainment venues such as cinemas, as well as those in the accommodation sectors, including hotels, B&BS and hostels.
