Unity Bank launched gender equity promotion

-

Africa ( Commonwealth Union) _ The Unity Bank Women Network has been officially launched by Unity Bank Plc in an effort to promote more inclusion, equity, and opportunities for women.

Tomi Somefun, the managing director of Unity Bank Plc, has stated at the beginning of the initiative in Lagos.

“As women, we must also do our part to create a more equitable society that empowers women, drives them to do more, entrusts them with responsibilities and celebrates their achievements every step of the way,”

The Unity Bank Women’s Network is intended to serve as a platform for gender advocacy, enabling the bank to target and support initiatives that promote collaboration and networking among women within the company. The program will provide opportunities for mentoring as well as advocacy on issues like leadership, parenting, gender equality, and financial literacy.

Somefun stated that the network’s organizer would be Patricia Ahunanya, the Bank’s chief compliance officer, and that she “believes this network will foster increased visibility, inclusiveness, and collaboration amongst women inside our organization.”

Speaking further about this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Embrace Equity,” Somefun said the day offered a chance to consider the ongoing fight for gender equality. She added that Unity Bank would keep fostering an enabling and equitable workplace that emphasized empowering its female workforce by fostering an environment in which women can thrive, regardless of their culture, background, or level of education.

The bank worked with ALTSchool Africa to empower female software engineers in the 2022 edition as part of a strategic initiative to encourage women to actively engage in the rapidly developing technology sector.

In keeping with this theme, the bank also collaborated with NASME to launch an engagement program for female entrepreneurs in time for International Women’s Day (IWD) in March 2022.
