US and Nigeria Doctors collaborate to improve cancer therapy and patient care

the Ministry of Health, the National Hospital Trauma Center, and the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital on novel therapeutic procedures to aid in the improvement of cancer patient treatment and survival rates. Additionally, they highlighted the need for early identification and prevention, improved service delivery, and institutional support for patient-centered care approaches.

Two Fulbright Specialists provided a special training in Lagos on pharmaceutical best practices to 34 pharmacy oncologists around Nigeria. The workshop included topics such as managing various types of cancer, choosing and delivering medications, utilizing Biosafety Cabinets and other workplace safety standards, and safe administration of chemotherapy at the Marcelle Ruth Cancer Center and NSIA-LUTH Cancer Center.

The tour was sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy and Project Pink Blue, which is a local cancer awareness charity organization, under the auspices of the US Department of State’s Fulbright Specialist Program. The Fulbright Specialist Program is a short-term supplement to the more well-known US Fulbright Scholar Program, which sends professors and professionals from the United States overseas as subject matter experts for consultation, research work, and fostering discussion.

This year celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright Program, which has been active in over 160 countries since 1946 to encourage global educational and cultural exchanges between outstanding students, academics, faculties, and professionals from a variety of professions.
