New Delhi, India (CU)_ On the occasion of Holi, US Vice President Kamala Harris extended her warm Holi greetings to the people. She said, “the festival is about positivity, setting aside our differences, and coming together.” Kamala Harris, the first woman to serve as Vice President of the United States and the first Indian-American to do so, took to Twitter to express her wishes. She tweeted, “Happy Holi! Holi is best known for vibrant colors that are tossed at friends and loved ones. Full of joy, Holi is all about positivity, setting aside our differences, and coming together. A message that’s been embodied by communities across the world during these tough times.”

Today is the Holi day. Festival of colors is celebrated on March 29 this year. In recent years, the ancient Hindu festival has gained in popularity around the world. While it is mainly a Hindu festival, it is also observed by people of other religions. It heralds the start of the country’s spring harvest season. During the celebrations, people share delicious, mouthwatering candies like ujiya, Rasgulla, Laddu, etc., and thandai, and splash colored powder and colored water on each other and throw balloons while chanting “Holi Hai”. The evening before Holi is called as Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi, and it is during this period that people light a bonfire to symbolize the demon Holika’s burning.
