appreciate and encourage the medical professionals in the hospital. It stated, “The donation is meant to honour the hard work of front-line doctors, nurses, medical, support staff and research initiatives across the hospitals and Saskatchewan. Contributing to research in the search to save lives for future infectious diseases is one way to honour front-line health-care workers while also creating a safer future for everyone.”

According to the officials, the latest contribution complements the previous private and public funding for VIDO’s establishment as Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research. Dr. Volker Gerdts, director and CEO of VIDO, stated that this fund support will be used for the future research on infectious diseases. He said, “This investment in Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research will help ensure we are prepared for the next emerging infectious disease, so our health-care system hopefully never has to face a pandemic of this magnitude again”.

According to authorities, this investment will be used to develop VIDO’s infrastructure and promote research. VIDO is advancing in clinical studies and recently published promising interim Phase 1 findings for COVAC-2, which is one of the company’s COVID-19 vaccine candidates. The organization, based at the University of Saskatchewan, has a 45-year track record of vaccine production and marketing, with eight vaccines commercialized and six being recognized as world-leading vaccines.
