Volkswagen Beetles Parade in honor of Mount Lavinia Hotel’s 70th anniversary

Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ What a fantastic celebration! The Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club Sri Lanka marked a momentous occasion on December 10, 2023, commemorating the 70th anniversary since the first import of VW Beetles to Sri Lanka. The picturesque courtyard of the Mount Lavinia Hotel served as the enchanting venue for this milestone event. 

The festivities commenced with a lively parade flagged off by Anura Dewapura, the Chief Operating Officer of MLHG, and Chef Publis Silva. Over 65 Beetles formed a stunning convoy, weaving their way from the Mount Lavinia Hotel to Galle Face on Galle Road. The parade continued, passing landmarks such as the Bank of Ceylon, the Lake House Junction, and Mcallum Road before turning onto Darley Road, where cheers and applause echoed from an enthusiastic crowd. The grand finale awaited at the Bishops Gate Ballroom of the Excel World. 

Leading the charge is Peter Jasinghe, the dedicated President of The Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club Sri Lanka, supported by Vice President Ruwan Punchihewa. Their shared passion and commitment guided the club to this remarkable milestone, ensuring a memorable celebration for all involved. 

The deep connection between the Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club Sri Lanka and the Mount Lavinia Hotel was evident throughout the celebration. For 15 years, the hotel has graciously hosted the grand finale of the World VW Day Parade, showca                     sing the vibrant beauty of the Beetle culture and strengthening the bond between the club and the iconic hotel. 

The Mount Lavinia Hotel, with its rich history and captivating stories, continues to be a steadfast supporter of cultural and community-based events. The hotel recognizes the importance of preserving traditions while creating new memories for generations to come. 

As the Beetle Owners Club celebrated its 70th anniversary, the joy and excitement were palpable. The parade not only highlighted the enduring appeal of these unique cars but also showcased the deep camaraderie among Beetle owners. 

The Volkswagen Beetle goes beyond being just a vehicle; it stands as an emblem of freedom, individuality, and a zest for life. Its timeless design and unmistakable charm have captured the hearts of Sri Lankans for seven decades. As the Beetle owners cruised through the streets of Colombo, they carried with them the spirit of adventure and a sense of belonging that is truly incomparable.
