UK (Commonwealth) _ The Volkswagen Group Board of Management has made the decision to increase the availability of entry-level all-electric vehicles. The Brand Group Core will enter the market with reasonably priced electric cars made in Europe, for Europe. 2027 is the projected year of the global debut. For a while now, Volkswagen has been attempting to provide small, notably affordable electric cars for about 20,000 euros.
The volume brands within the Group are delivering on their commitment to enable universal mobility and to ease the transition to e-mobility in this way. The Volkswagen Group takes on a social duty for accessible, environmentally friendly transportation with its diverse range of brands.
According to Oliver Blume, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, “many people identify the powerful brands of the Volkswagen Group with their first automobile—and with reasonably priced mobility.” As a collective with powerful businesses, we still take on this societal obligation today. For this reason, I’m thrilled that we’re starting a project that looks to the future. It has to do with affordable electric transportation from Europe to Europe.
Head of the Core brand group and CEO of the Volkswagen brand, Thomas Schäfer, says, “Our company motto is: electromobility for all.” We keep our word in the Brand Group Core. Our electric cars will lead the entry-level sector in terms of technology, design, quality, and customer experience—all at a price that is very appealing.

By doing this, we operate in the best interests of European consumers while also demonstrating our unwavering commitment to Europe as a place for industry.
“The future is electric,” says Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and leader of the Brand Group Core. Attractive automobiles are necessary for electromobility to proliferate, particularly in the entry-level market. We pledge to provide electromobility to everyone. Within the Brand Group Core, this promise is now being realized. Our cars will lead the entry-level sector in terms of quality, design, technology, and customer experience—all at a price that is very appealing.
The increasing prices of energy, materials, and raw materials have made this work more difficult. There is little doubt that governmental backing and favorable competitive circumstances are necessary for the success of electromobility from Europe for Europe.
Volkswagen will rely heavily on localization in Europe for this initiative, which will help Europe’s industrial location. An additional benefit is the reduction of lengthy component transit routes, which prevents CO2 emissions.
The project that has been selected represents a significant advancement toward the widespread use of electromobility throughout Europe. The “Electric Urban Car Family,” with which the Brand Group Core will provide electric vehicles for less than 25,000 euros as early as the end of 2025, is now the subject of intense development.
The four cars will be produced in Spain. The Volkswagen Group is now making the next, steady move with the 20,000 euro initiative on all-electric entry-level mobility. Known for the iconic Beetle, the brand was founded in 1937 by the German Labour Front under the Nazi Party and was revitalized into the global brand it is today by British Army officer Ivan Hirst.
It is the flagship brand of the Volkswagen Group, which is the largest automotive manufacturer globally by sales in 2016 and 2017. China, which includes Hong Kong and Macau, is the group’s largest market and accounts for 40% of its sales and earnings. Its name is a combination of the German words Volk and Wagen, which mean “people’s car” respectively.
Volkswagen is the original and eponymous member of the Volkswagen Group, a sizable global enterprise in charge of several automobile and truck brands, among them are Audi, SEAT, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Scania, MAN, and Å koda. The historic Volkswagen headquarters are situated in Wolfsburg, Germany, home of the Volkswagen Group. The Volkswagen Group, as a whole, employs over 74,000 people and operates over 7,700 dealerships, making it the biggest automaker in Europe.
