12:01am tonight. The new rules will not change arrangements for freight workers coming in from NSW.

Currently, all truck drivers must be tested for coronavirus weekly and wear a mask after crossing borders. They are also required to apply for a G2G pass and undergo a health screening on arrival.

Family in NSW locked out of WA

Tom Morrison is a father of a three-month-old baby and has been trying to bring his family back to WA from New South Wales since his daughter was born in June.

Morrison commented that “We’ve been applying basically since then on compassionate grounds to get back to Western Australia, which is where our family on both sides resides, as the situation has been worsening over here, we’ve been trying more frantically to get a G2G application approved.”

Mr Morrison said he and his wife had submitted almost 10 applications but had been rejected every time.

He continued to state that “They were coming back to us with ‘it’s getting more severe over there, so just wait for the cases to go down’. Which, obviously, they’ve been increasing since that point, we’ve been trying to book into vaccinations. I’m 33, my wife is 32, so we sort of fit into that 19 to 39 bracket. We’ve got one [application] currently that we’re waiting for an outcome on that we submitted over a week ago. But obviously the deadline’s midnight tonight, and we need to get a vaccination before then, which is looking impossible.”
