US President Donald Trump has made a strong and controversial statement on social media, warning Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face serious consequences. In his message, he used harsh language and said the United States could destroy Iran’s power plants and bridges if the situation was not resolved by the Tuesday deadline.
Trump repeated his earlier warning that there could be “hell” to pay if Iran did not act. However, he also told American media that there was still a good chance that both sides could reach an agreement soon. Despite this, Iran quickly rejected his warning, calling it emotional, weak, and unreasonable. The situation comes during a period of intense conflict that has lasted for more than a month. During this time, Iran has been responding to air strikes from the US and Israel by launching attacks on countries in the Gulf that support them.
Tensions increased further after a US fighter jet was shot down over Iran. One crew member was rescued in a difficult operation carried out deep inside Iranian territory. The search for the second crew member involved both US and Iranian forces in a mountainous area in the southwest of the country. The pilot of the aircraft had already been recovered shortly after the jet was brought down.
A major issue in the conflict is the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important shipping routes in the world. About 20% of global oil and gas supplies pass through this narrow waterway. Iran has disrupted traffic through the strait, causing oil prices to rise sharply and increasing concerns about global inflation.
Because of this, Trump has repeatedly given deadlines for Iran to reopen the route. He first issued a warning in March, saying Iran had 48 hours to fully reopen the strait or face military action. However, he later delayed the deadline several times, saying talks with Iran were going well. Iran denied that any such discussions were taking place.
More recently, Trump posted another message extending the deadline again, giving Iran more time to respond. He also suggested that if no agreement was reached, the US might take control of oil resources by force.Iranian officials have responded by saying the strait will only be reopened under certain conditions. They want part of the shipping fees to be used to cover damage caused during the conflict. Some Iranian leaders also warned that any US attack would lead to serious retaliation.
At the same time, fighting continues across the region. Israel has carried out strikes on Iranian infrastructure and energy facilities. There are also reports that Israel may carry out more attacks. It may also get US support.
Iran has continued launching missiles and drones at Israel and its allies. In one attack, a residential building in the Israeli city of Haifa was hit, injuring several people. Other countries in the Gulf, including the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, have also reported damage to oil and industrial sites after Iranian attacks. The situation is still very tense. Both sides are making threats and taking military action. The world is watching closely for any sign of an agreement.
