Georgia, USA (CU)_ Indian-American Samir Patel has been designated as the district attorney for the region of northwest Georgia. Governor Brian Kemp appointed Patel as the district attorney to the Cherokee Circuit Court. Bartow and Gordon counties in northwest Georgia, which are about halfway between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tennessee, are part of the circuit.
Samir Patel will occupy the vacant post of the district attorney, as the former district attorney and present judge Rosemary Greene was appointed to the Cherokee Judicial Circuit as the Superior Court Judge in February. Greene filled the judicial vacancy created by the retirement of Judge David K. Smith. Bartow and Gordon Counties make up the Cherokee Judicial Circuit.
The 43-year-old attorney was born in Houston, Texas. Patel graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s degree in information sciences and general management and a law degree from Georgia State University.
Patel has worked as an associate attorney of White and Choate in Cartersville since 2010. Patel has also worked as a municipal court judge of Euharlee, Georgia, since 2017. He previously taught criminal law, constitutional law, and ethics as a Part-Time Instructor at ITT Technical Institute in Kennesaw. He has served five years as an assistant public defender in the Cherokee Judicial Circuit. Presently, he is one of the board of directors for Advocates for Children.
Previously, he was the president of the Bartow County Bar Association and the Bartow County Exchange Club. Patel has also worked as a High School Mock Trial Instructor and is a 2014 graduate of the Bartow County Chamber of Commerce Leadership program.
