What India is snatching from China?

India (Common Wealth) _ As per the missionary leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi technology is going to be the answer to all recurring and well-publicized impediments in India. . Modi’s administration is establishing a digital platform which would provide investors and businesses with a one-stop shop for project design, streamlined approvals, and cost calculation.

This will unite 16 ministries as part of a 100-trillion-rupee (S$1.6 trillion) megaproject called PM Gati Shakti – Hindi for strength of speedThe goal is to complete projects on time and on budget, according to Amrit Lal Meena, special secretary of logistics at the ministry of commerce and industry, in an interview in New Delhi. Global corporations choose India as a location for their operations, in particular their manufacturing.

Fast-tracking projects will give India an advantage, especially with China still largely closed to the outside world and firms increasingly adopting a China-plus-one policy to diversify their businesses and supply chains (finding other countries to expand in or source from).

Despite dilapidated infrastructure, Asia’s third-largest economy offers not only inexpensive labor but also a talent pool of primarily English-speaking workers.

Apart from the fact that there are political requirements for countries to move away from China, the only way to compete is to be as cost competitive as possible,” said Anshuman Sinha, a partner at Kearney India who leads the transport and infrastructure practices.  Gati Shakti is about making it easier to move goods and manufactured components across the country.”

According to Sinha, the project’s primary pillars include discovering new industrial clusters that do not exist today and seamlessly connecting those sites to the nation’s railway network, ports, and airports.

“If you peel back the layers of Gati Shakti, it’s made up of identifying nodes and strengthening the logistics network connecting those nodes.”

Using technology to reduce red tape is critical for India to unclog its stalled infrastructure projects. According to Meena, about 40% of the 1,300 projects overseen by Gati Shakti’s site have been delayed due to challenges with land acquisition, forest and environmental permissions, resulting in cost overruns. At least 422 projects had problems, with the gateway resolving 200 of them.

According to a government organization promoting investments in India, Gati Shakti will utilize technology to ensure that a newly constructed road is not dug up again to put out phone cables or gas pipelines.

According to Invest India, the government agency, the plan envisions infrastructure initiatives similar to what Europe achieved after WWII or what China accomplished between 1980 and 2010 to raise the country’s “competitive index.”

“Today’s India is committed to investing more and more in modern infrastructure development, and it is taking every precaution to ensure that projects do not face roadblocks and are not delayed,” Modi added.

“Quality infrastructure is essential for kicking-starting several economic activities and creating large-scale employment.” India cannot flourish holistically without modern infrastructure.”

Since taking office in 2014, Modi has increased infrastructure expenditure to create new jobs and support an economy battered by an aggressive wave of Covid-19 infections.

He has had some initial success. Apple Inc expects to start producing the iPhone 14 in India around two months after the product’s initial release outside of China, while Samsung Electronics Co opened the world’s largest mobile phone plant in the country in 2018. Home-grown Ola Electric Mobility Pvt has committed to constructing the world’s largest electric scooter manufacturing in India.
