The moon has been in the news after India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission made India the first country to land a spacecraft near the lunar south pole. Let’s check out stories about celebrities who allegedly own lunar lands and have also made headlines.
The concept began with Dennis Hope, who in 1980 claimed to have found a loophole in international space law. He later established the Lunar Embassy and began selling certificates for plots on the moon. Prices have reportedly been offered at relatively low rates, sometimes between $20 and $40 per acre. However, these purchases do not equate to legal ownership under international space law.
