AFRICA  ( Commonwealth Union) _ Lawyer Miguna Miguna has called upon President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government to withdraw the Finance Bill 2023 and suspend the Housing Levy. Miguna’s appeal follows widespread criticism from a section of Kenyans who argue that the Bill is ill-timed given the current economic situation.

Taking to his social media platforms, Miguna advised the government, which he previously supported, that the people of Kenya have made their stance clear on these matters. He boldly urged President Ruto to reconsider and find a better course of action rather than forcing the Bill upon the citizens.

Miguna’s advice echoes a warning given by ODM leader Raila Odinga to Ruto, cautioning him about facing an unprecedented revolt if he proceeds with the Bill. Raila expressed concerns about the punitive nature of Ruto’s tax plan and its inopportune timing, considering the economic challenges already faced by many Kenyans.

Despite the criticisms, Ruto has remained steadfast in his support for the Bill, asserting that it will provide the necessary funds to revolutionize the economy.

However, Miguna believes Ruto’s uncompromising stance will not effectively address the current crisis and advises against being defensive or arguing with the people.

Miguna further suggests that Ruto should initiate a complete overhaul of his team of advisors, seeking individuals who will speak truth to power and formulate policies that align with the interests of Kenyans. He also blames Ruto’s communication team for failing to protect the president’s image amidst the sustained backlash against the Finance Bill 2023. Miguna recommends reshuffling the team and bringing in fresh faces rather than relying on yes-men and yes-women.

In conclusion, Miguna Miguna urges President Ruto and the Kenyan government to withdraw the Finance Bill 2023 and suspend the Housing Levy in response to the public’s concerns. He advises Ruto to listen to the people, reconsider his approach, and make necessary changes to his advisory and communication teams.
