Yorkshire woman gave up everything she owned to travel in yellow van and ‘spread happiness’

UNITED KINGDOM – A Yorkshire woman has sold her home to live in a van to spread joy where she travels.

Kelly Williams, 45, sold her home to move into the van, which she has named Sol after the sun. She hopes to visit towns and cities across the country and help organise community events.

Originally from Mirfield, Kelly says her mission is to “spread happiness, friendship, kindness, love and unity” wherever she goes in her little yellow van. This can take lots of forms, sometimes she leaves messages on benches to encourage people to speak to each other.

Kelly goes from town to town “carried by the kindness of others”, this includes places to park the van, a bed for the night, food parcels or a shower.

In a video posted on YouTube, Kelly described her reasoning for travelling. She said: “I was 38 and my life just sort of, not fell to pieces, but I was in a solid relationship, we thought we were going to get married and be together forever. All of a sudden that relationship ended and it was three days which changed my life. I actually went to see a psychic, I’d never seen a psychic in my life, and it just changed my life. It turned me from one path, onto another path. She talked about things like listening to your voice inside and stuff like that.”

Kelly also says she has experienced a lot of loneliness in her life before and wanted to help spread awareness about loneliness wherever she went. She hopes her trip will help people feel more connected to each other.
