Younger generation to shoulder Ikale development

-

Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ Ikale, an ethnic group in the Southern part of Ondo State, Nigeria, is advocating for a unified approach to advance in various fields such as politics, commerce, economics, military, and entertainment. With a population of about 1,900,000, Ikale is a major ethnic group in Ondo State, spanning Ikale and Irele councils, and extending into Odigbo LGA, Ayede, Ayila, and Ijebu Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Ikale people, part of the Yoruba Race, are recognized by their distinct towns in Irele LGA, including Ode-Irele, Ode-Omi, Ode-Ajagba, Iyansan, Akotogbo, and Ujosun. In Okitipupa LGA, they have towns like Idepe-Okitipupa, Ikoya, Ode-Ayeka, Igbodigo, and more. Ikales also have a presence in the United States, where the Ikale World Congress (IWC) plays a significant role in connecting the diaspora.

The IWC, established as an offshoot of the Ikale Progressive Association (IPA) in New York and New Jersey, serves as the major umbrella body for Ikales globally. Its formation aimed to unite Ikales in North America and expand their influence. The IWC, with its annual convention and dinner night, fosters unity, networking, and collaboration among Ikales abroad.

Late Chief Ekudayo Aiyebo, the immediate past President of the Congress, is celebrated for his significant contributions. His leadership, marked by humility, love, and compassion, focused on unity, peace, and progress. Despite his passing in December 2022, Chief Aiyebo left a lasting legacy and laid the foundation for the Congress’s growth.

The newly elected IWC President, Mrs. Olayinka Ibitoye, emphasizes the importance of involving younger generations for the development of the Ikale nation. She sees unity, peace, and love as essential components for Ikales worldwide to become a powerful nation. IWC’s mission includes promoting unity, preserving Ikale cultural heritage, and providing humanitarian assistance.

Looking ahead, President Ibitoye envisions the active participation of the younger generation as a key to the continued success of the association. The IWC convention serves as a platform for networking, exchanging ideas, and collaborating on projects that advance the shared missions of Ikales worldwide. The Congress’s interventions, including rehabilitating facilities after the ENDSARS Protest, scholarships, and medical outreaches, reflect its commitment to the welfare of the Ikale people. The legacy of leaders like Chief Aiyebo and the dedication of the new executive team position the Ikale World Congress for sustained progress and development.
