Africa (Commonwealth Union)President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm Ramadan greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe following the sighting of the crescent moon in several countries, including Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, on Friday. As the fasting month commences on March 1, Tinubu urged adherents to embrace the profound virtues of piety, humility, and selflessness that define this sacred period.

“Let us use this time to deepen our relationship with Allah and strengthen the bonds of unity and peace within our communities,” the President stated in a message signed by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed worldwide through fasting, prayer, reflection, and acts of charity. As one of the five pillars of Islam, fasting requires Muslims to abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to dusk for 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the next crescent moon.

In his statement, President Tinubu described Ramadan as a season of spiritual rejuvenation, self-discipline, and empathy for the less fortunate. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the privilege of witnessing this holy month and prayed for divine blessings, spiritual fulfillment, and good health for all observers.

This year’s Ramadan, Tinubu noted, carries a special significance as Nigeria undergoes a period of renewed hope and progress. He highlighted his administration’s economic reforms, pointing to a stabilizing economy and declining inflation as signs of positive change.

“Our bold and transformative policies are yielding results. The gross domestic product (GDP) for the last quarter of 2024 showed a remarkable improvement compared to the same period in 2023. Essential food prices are stabilizing, providing much-needed relief to fasting Nigerians, while the exchange rate and fuel costs are showing positive trends.”

The president reaffirmed his government’s commitment to agricultural growth and food security.

“Through targeted support, mechanization, and innovative farming initiatives, we are determined to enhance food production and ensure self-sufficiency for all Nigerians,” he stated.

Encouraging collective action, Tinubu urged citizens to unite in prayer and effort for national development.

“Let us seek Allah’s guidance and protection for our nation, and let our actions reflect our commitment to peace, unity, and progress.”

Concluding his message, the President wished all Muslims a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan, filled with peace and joy.

“May the blessings of this holy month illuminate our hearts and homes, making us better individuals and a stronger nation.”
