Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ In a compelling display of transparency and strategic outreach, Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has extended his progress report tour to the international stage, meeting with Anambra indigenes in London for an Easter Monday town hall that marked the high point of a broad diaspora engagement campaign.
The event was the latest in a series of town hall meetings, following successful outings in Awka, Lagos, and Abuja, and is part of Soludo’s commitment to what he calls “governance with accountability to the people, his employers.”
A New Model of Leadership
According to his press secretary, Christian Aburime, the governor’s message wasn’t just a highlight reel of achievements but a demonstration of fiscal prudence. At a time when many Nigerian states are weighed down by debt, Soludo emphasized that Anambra’s progress has come without reliance on World Bank loans or unsustainable borrowing.
“Soludo proudly highlighted his administration’s achievements without resorting to potentially crippling debt. This prudent financial stewardship deserves attention,” Aburime stated.
The event was described as interactive and dynamic, with Governor Soludo welcoming critical questions and providing candid answers, reinforcing his image as a leader unafraid of scrutiny.
Tapping the Diaspora’s Power
More than a policy briefing, the London town hall was a call to action for Anambra’s global citizens. The governor emphasized the intellectual, professional, and financial capital of Ndi Anambra abroad, urging them to “think about home” and invest in the state’s future.
By redefining the relationship between government and people from one of patronage to shared ownership, Soludo positions development as a collective project, not a handout.
“These professionals and business leaders abroad possess networks, expertise, and investment capacity that could accelerate development back home,” Aburime said.
Building the Smart Megacity Vision
As Governor Soludo continues to push his “smart megacity” agenda, he has made stakeholder inclusion central to his strategy. His administration has been deliberate about grassroots engagement, capital city outreach, and now global connection, laying the groundwork for what many believe could lead to a highly anticipated second term.
“For now, his model of accountability, fiscal discipline, and Diaspora partnership keeps Anambra rising on the wings of “ ‘One State, One People, One Agenda’,” said Aburime.
