Kerala (Commonwealth Union)_ On Sunday, the Ernakulam Town Hall became a sight to behold, as over 130 sets of twins and many groups of triplets gathered under one roof to celebrate Onam. Twins from throughout the state gathered in similar attire, smiling with excitement, to exchange tales, celebrate their link, and enjoy the twin festival spirit. The All-Kerala Twins Community (AKTC) and the All-Twins Association (ATA) organized the event, which drew almost 300 people ranging in age from babies just starting to walk to senior residents in their late 70s. They marked the joyous occasion with cultural activities, traditional dances, music, and a magnificent Onasadya, or Onam feast.

A vibrant flower carpet, or Pookalam, welcomed guests at the entrance. Adwaik and Anvek, two-year-old twins, were among the youngest attendees, playing near the Pookalam before their father gently pulled them back. “We always dreamed of having two children, and when they both came together, it felt like a blessing,” said their father, Suman, who travelled from Palakkad to attend after seeing the event on social media. At the other end of the age spectrum were 78-year-old twins M. U. Krishnan and M. U. Raman from Vengoor. The retired postal superintendent and his brother enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many others who shared their unique bond. “We don’t know most people here, but we still feel connected. This platform helps us build friendships and community,” Krishnan said with a smile.

The hall was filled with laughter as people exchanged stories and memories. Triplets Saritha, Savitha, and Sangeetha from Cherthala shared that they were named after three famous movie theaters in Ernakulam, a story that delighted the audience. For many, the event was deeply emotional. “We’ve never seen this many twins together in one place,” said 74-year-old Cherian Paul from Kuzhipalli, who attended with his brother Joseph. “It feels like a big family reunion.”

The All Twins Association began in 2018 as a small WhatsApp group and has since grown into a registered organization with over 1,000 members. “This is our third meet-up, but the biggest so far,” said joint secretary Ragesh P R. “It’s more than just a gathering; it’s a support system.” ATA secretary Viswas Vavolil added that the group stays connected online and often attends members’ weddings and supports families during emergencies. “We’re more than just a community of twins. We’re friends, supporters, and extended family,” he said.

Viswas’ twin brother, Rahul PR, shared that the group is beginning to expand its efforts. “This year, we helped a few students with their study materials. We want to do more in education, healthcare, and emotional support.” Local MP Hibi Eden, MLA T. J. Vinod, and filmmaker N. M. Badusha attended the event. ATA also announced plans to seek government assistance for families raising twins or triplets, who often face double the financial strain. As the day drew to a close, it became evident that, despite beginning as a pair, no one in this expanding community is alone.
