India (Commonwealth Union)_ Ayodhya lit up in a spectacular fashion on Sunday evening as the city set two new world records during its Deepotsav celebrations during this Diwali. Over 26.17 lakh earthen lamps (diyas) were lit along the banks of the Saryu River, creating a breathtaking scene of devotion and celebration. Additionally, the event, organized by the Uttar Pradesh government, saw an impressive 2,128 people perform a grand ‘aarti’ together, marking another world record. Officials from Guinness World Records used drones to verify the numbers and confirmed the achievements during the event.

The celebrations began at 5 PM and lasted until 8 PM, featuring a dramatic light and sound show, dazzling fireworks, and cultural performances. Thousands of volunteers, over 33,000 in total, including students from colleges and universities, worked together to light the diyas across Ram Ki Paidi and 56 ghats. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the festivities, welcomed religious leaders, and participated in the ceremonial aarti. He also led a symbolic procession featuring performers dressed as Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman, riding a replica of the Pushpak Vimana.

Speaking to the media, Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Kumar said, “Preparations were completed in advance, and security forces were fully deployed. The spirit of unity and devotion was evident across the city.” Artists from five countries took part in Ramlila performances, which continued into the night. In total, 2,617,215 diyas were lit, breaking the previous year’s record. The Tourism Department, Ayodhya administration, and Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University were jointly honored by Guinness World Records for the largest oil lamp display.

A second Guinness title was awarded for the largest group aarti, performed by 2,128 Vedacharyas, who also recited Vedic chants by the riverside. CM Adityanath said the diyas symbolized the triumph of faith and light over centuries of darkness, noting that across Uttar Pradesh, over 1.51 crore diyas were lit on the same day. The evening also featured a drone and laser show, with 1,100 Indian-made drones forming visuals from the Ramayana in the sky, adding a modern touch to an ancient tradition.
