A Rare Weather Twist Awaits the UAE: Rain, Dust, and a Welcome Cool-Down on the Way

Expectations are that the UAE’s weather over the next week will follow all the cycles typical to that area of the globe: showers everywhere, strong dust blowing from one spot to another; dew forming on the ground; rough seas; and, by Friday, unseasonably lower temperatures than have been recently experienced. The forecast for the UAE from the National Centre of Meteorology indicates that weather will be fair to partly cloudy until Sunday with the greatest probabilities of rainfall occurring primarily during late afternoon hours over the eastern and southern portions of the emirates. In addition, rain-causing cloudiness may flow from the east into the interior of the UAE on Wednesday, which provides the week an unpredictable or negative beginning.

The reason this forecast of rain events and wind velocity is noteworthy is because of their predicted impacts on actual experience on the ground. The prediction for increases in gusty winds on Wednesday is up to 45 kilometers per hour. This wind velocity may be sufficient to create dust or blown dirt (as is the experience of residents in exposed regions) that decreases the level of visibility in various areas. … On Thursday or Friday, north-westerly wind patterns are predicted to create rough seas in areas surrounding the western Arabian Gulf, which will ultimately make the coastline the most weather-sensitive of the week. This scenario means that a number of times this week, residents could experience rapid changes and sharp contrast between clear skies and low visibility due to rapidly gusting winds.

After Friday, we will shift into a period of cooler temperatures across all of the UAE, along with increases in humidity at night and in the early morning hours near the coasts. Some areas will likely see foggy to misty weather by Sunday morning, either inland or along coastal areas. Overall, the weekend will be cooler, and Sunday will be foggier at sunrise than expected.

The forecast for the next few days shows that there will be many weather effects, not just one. Precipitation, dusty weather, variable winds, and a period of colder temperatures will have all come together, resulting in this unique opportunity for the sky of the UAE to become the focus of attention.
