Guinness Nigeria Plc posted a 53% year-on-year increase in profit after tax, reaching N25.3 billion in the first half of 2026. Despite the prevailing macroeconomic headwinds across West Africa, the beverage manufacturer posted revenues of about N265 billion during the period, showing commercial resilience.
The company’s managing director & chief executive officer Girish Sharma, finance & strategy director Mayank Kabra and corporate relations & legal director Rotimi Odusola discussed the financial performance during the company’s H1 2026 Investors and Analysts Call.
Key operational metrics reported nearly 12% growth in net sales value and 15% growth in operating profit. Gross profit margins were around 37% and operating margins 16%.
The company also made significant progress on the balance sheet during the reporting period:
1. Shareholders’ Equity: Grew from N43.3 billion to N64.2 billion.
2. Net Debt Reduction: Substantial decrease from about N37 billion to about N19 billion.
3. Capital Reinvestment: Spent approximately N20 billion in capital expenditure in manufacturing upgrades and supply chain infrastructure.
4. Shareholder Returns: Paid out dividends of around N20 billion.
The executives said the results reflected disciplined cost management and strategic brand innovation. The company has weathered broad foreign exchange volatility, currency devaluation and rising domestic inflation that have all weighed on consumer buying power across Nigeria.
Guinness Nigeria changed its packaging and product portfolio to suit consumer preferences. Key moves included the launch of new 440ml formats for Guinness Foreign Extra Stout (FES) and Guinness Smooth, the expansion of retail distribution for Malta Guinness into open markets, the launch of Orijin in PET packaging and the expansion of market share in the ready-to-drink segment via Smirnoff Ice.
The brewer has a national route-to-market network of 390 key distributors supported by major brewing facilities in Lagos and Benin and integrated regional logistics centres.
“We have moved from balance sheet vulnerability to long-term operational efficiency,” said Managing Director Girish Sharma. Guinness Nigeria will continue to deliver consistent margins and manage the ongoing operating volatility in the Nigerian consumer market through the use of focused capital investments and financial discipline.
