Brexit talks suspended!

London, UK (CWBN)_ Following the breakdown in negotiations on Thursday when British negotiators accused the European Union of demanding new concessions, it was announced earlier today that the negotiations will be suspended pending a dialogue between UK and EU leadership to break the deadlock.

A statement issued read “After one week of intense negotiations in London, the two chief negotiators agreed today that the conditions for an agreement are not met […]”

Although the EU has denied that it has demanded additional concessions, the deadlock was allegedly trigged over French insistence for fishing rights in British waters.

Fishing rights, the maintenance of a free and competitive market, and the regulation of the Brexit agreement have been key points which have led to the deterioration of talks over the past months, although the UK financial sector has more to lose if a deal is not reached before the Brexit deadline (31st Dec).

However, neither party is expected to walk away from the negotiating table despite assertions made by PM Boris Johnson and his government over a “no-deal Brexit”, although serious rifts did take place last month with the resignation of key actors from Downing Street including Dominic Cummings and Lee Cain.
