China identified as UK’s ‘greatest strategic threat’

London, UK (CWBN)_ Addressing an event held at Chatham House, yesterday (14th Dec), Director of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), Jeremy Fleming, said that the department has identified China as the “greatest strategic threat” faced by the UK.

It was reported National Cyber Security Centre handles over 60 serious breaches occur each month, and as many of the attacks were related to the Covid-19 situation.

Fleming added that UK’s policy on information sharing with the European Union will not change in the case of a “no-deal Brexit”, and warned that Chinese hackers may attempt to target vaccine suppliers and hospitals to profit off the uncertainties of the UK’s current circumstances.

The Sun reported that, Fleming said that, “We have seen serious criminals and states trying to take advantage of this situation.  They have targeted the vaccine’s production and supply chains, government services and healthcare.”

Speaking alongside Fleming, Commander of Strategic Command, General Sir Patrick Sanders, said that bilateral relations with EU allies is “strong enough to withstand any of the strain and tension that may arise’ after December 31 in terms of defence and security.”
