India to host COVID-19 Management workshop, nine South Asian countries invited

New Delhi, India (CU)_India is hosting a virtual workshop on management of COVID-19 pandemic titled “COVID-19 Management: Experience, Good Practices and Way Forward” on Thursday to discuss about the current pandemic crisis and has invited nine South Asian countries to participate in the program. Official sources reported that Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Seychelles have been invited to attend the virtual workshop.

The conference will be headed by India’s health secretary, and each country will be represented by their corresponding health secretary and chief of technical team controlling COVID-19 management. The conference will mainly focus on managing the pandemic and sharing of best practices.

The SAARC Heads of State video conference was conducted on March 15, 2020. During the meet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an emergency coronavirus fund for the region. To better manage the global coronavirus pandemic crisis, this emergency fund was allocated. In the South Asian region, the initiative aims to reduce the threats associated with the pandemic, and India donated $10 million to the project.

The other SAARC members supported the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his plan for a coronavirus emergency fund. In the battle against the coronavirus pandemic, India is leading globally and has provided COVID-19 vaccines to many Asian countries such as Bangladesh with 20 lakh doses, Myanmar with 17 lakh doses, Nepal with 10 lakhs, Bhutan with 1.5 lakhs, Maldives with 1 lakh, Mauritius with 1 lakh, Seychelles with 50000, Sri Lanka with 5 lakhs, and Afghanistan with 5 lakhs.
