Colombo, Sri Lanka (CU)_ The former achievers of hitting six sixes in an over include the eight popular cricketers namely, Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley, Hazratullah Zazai, Leo Carter, and most recently Kieron Pollard. Following their footsteps, Sri Lanka’s all-rounder Thisara Perera became the ninth cricketer in the world to accomplish this master stroke in professional cricket.

The Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera wrote a new chapter in Sri Lankan cricket history. Following his six sixes in an over during a domestic match in Colombo, Perera became the first cricketer from Sri Lanka to accomplish this feat. During the match between Sri Lanka Army group and Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club in the Major Clubs Limited Over List A tournament at the Army Ground in Panagoda town, Perera was captaining Sri Lanka Army group, and he was unbeaten with 52 score for 13 balls when he accomplished the feat.

The 31-year-old cricketer’s half-century, which included eight sixes, was the second-fastest 50 by a Sri Lankan in List A cricket, behind the former all-rounder Kaushalya Weeraratne who reached 50 in just 12 balls in 2005. Perera was the fifth batsman in the match with 20 balls left in their innings that was reduced to 41 overs per hand. Dilhan Cooray, a part-time off-spinner, was the bowler who took Perera’s onslaught. Perera has represented Sri Lanka in six Tests, 166 one-day internationals, and 84 T20 internationals, but his smashing strikes went in vain that day as the match was called off due to rain.
