OTTAWA (CU)_Following a requests for proposals issued by the Environment and Climate Change Canada, the need for expert collaboration was recognised in order to “provide independent and expert-driven analysis” that would enable the North American nation to move toward clean growth in all sectors and regions. Accordingly, the Canadian Institute for Climate Choices, an independent organisation, was established in order to undertake rigorous research and insightful analysis, and issue policy recommendations.

The recent report issued by the organisation revealed that unless the government takes significant action, climate change threatens the environment, economy and health of the country’s population, with Canada’s health care system expected to experience a cost of billions of dollars in the decades ahead, as a result of the crisis. According to the report, the continuous change in climate is expected to worsen pre-existing health conditions and put a strain on the country’s health care system, while disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable parts of the population.
