Large American businesses find ‘very high’ confidence in the UK

LONDON (CU)_On 15 June 2021, the government of the United Kingdom announced a free trade agreement with Australia which would see British products such as cars, ceramics, biscuits and Scotch whisky being sold at lower prices in the Pacific nation. This was the first trade deal negotiated from scratch by the UK since its withdrawal from the European Union. On the other hand, with regard to the agreements which the UK was automatically part of as a member of the EU, London has so far negotiated rollover deals with 66 of these countries, including Canada, Singapore and Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State for International Trade, Liz Truss, is set to travel to the United States this week, as London and Washington continue to finalise negotiations for a trade deal. Despite concerns over a lack of an agreement between the two countries, more than half of the large American businesses conducting operations in the UK plan to increase investments in the European nation over the next few years.
