Group overview: Marriott to add almost 1,000 new hotels

Founded in 1927, Marriott International has grown into be a true giant of the hotel industry, and it has made its plans for global domination which appear to have remained intact despite the pandemic. It is speculated that the group will launch no fewer than 952 hotel schemes and 214,832 keys around the world over the next few years.

The remainder of 2021 will be extremely busy for Marriott, with 277 projects and 56,133 rooms set to complete before the year is out – 117 of these schemes are already in the pre-opening phase. And in 2022, another 294 new properties with 64,668 keys will open their doors. Things will slow down slightly in 2023, when 145 schemes and 32,660 rooms are due to launch. The pipeline for 2024 and beyond already looks promising, however, with 236 hotels and 61,371 keys on the books thus far. Of these 952 new hotels, 504 will be in the four-star segment. The remaining 448 properties fall into the luxury five-star segment.
