California, USA (CU)_ Batteries are receiving a silicon makeover, which could change our thoughts towards electricity and energy use. Sila Nanotechnologies, a California business that has collected over $880 million since its establishment in 2011, has introduced a latest innovative battery. According to the company, the battery is more powerful than the existing batteries while also maintaining life cycle and safety.

Most of the technology we use today is powered by batteries. Highly effective and powerful batteries will be required when battery-based fuel and energy sources such as solar panels, electric vehicles, and wind turbines become more common. Sila’s batteries are made from next-generation silicon anode material, which replaces graphite in lithium-ion batteries that are used in most of the existing technologies. This enables more lithium atoms to be packed into the battery, resulting in improved efficiency.

Sila’s battery will be launched in Boston business Whoop’s 4.0 fitness tracker, a Fitbit competitor with a slew of activity-monitoring features ranging from sleep patterns to heart rates and skin temperature sensors. Since its inception in 2012, Whoop has raised $405 million. The compact battery will have a 20% higher power density than earlier Whoop models, allowing it to be up to 33% smaller while also maintaining the same five-day battery life.

Sila’s collaboration with Whoop is an attempt to start small before moving on to larger applications such as cellphones, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. Sila anticipates its batteries to be installed in automobiles by 2025, lowering the cost of electric vehicles and increasing their range.
