The entire world is making an effort to bring down the carbon foot print they are leaving. The environment is suffering and this causing other problems such as natural disasters and everyone has to do their part to rectify this problem before it becomes to severe for us to manage and control.

The Royal Mail is making a move to become more eco-friendly. What they will be doing is trying to reduce the amount of large vehicles they use to deliver their goods. The Royal Mail are set to trial two different types of vehicles to deliver letters and small parcels.

Initially in a six month trial, the new transport that resemble golf buggies or a quad bike will be rolled out in Edinburgh, Crewe, Liverpool, Swindon and London, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see them on your doorstep.

Should they be successful, it’ll have a massive impact on reducing CO2 emissions for the company.

Simon Thompson, chief executive officer at Royal Mail, said: “It’s really exciting to see these micro electric vehicles making their way into our daily deliveries. We’re committed to keep on reducing our environmental impact and we intend to leave no stone unturned in trialing new technologies and new ways of delivering to help us do that. As our fantastic posties make most deliveries on foot, this already means we have the lowest reported CO2e per parcel of major UK delivery companies. From drones to electric vehicles, fuel-efficient tyres to bio-CNG trucks, we’ll keep on innovating to reduce our environmental impact even further.”

The vehicles will be able to accommodate more than an average daily round’s worth of letters and small parcels and are charged using a standard three-pin plug.
