The ‘absolutely horrifying’ story behind fiery Melbourne private school protest

James Robinson was just 15 years old when he was “aggressively outed” by a peer at one of Melbourne’s most elite private schools.

While in Year 9 at the prestigious all-boys Catholic school, St Kevin’s College in Toorak, Mr Robinson said he struck up an online conversation with a boy two years above him on an instant messaging service.

“This is before I even had the language to define my sexuality,” Mr Robinson had stated to multiple news agencies. Mr Robinson said the fellow student eventually opened up to him and told him that he was gay – a conversation that “changed his world”.

“We had this really beautiful night where I finally felt safe,” he said. “I finally felt like I’d found someone.”
