AUSTRALIA _ CU – Australian children aged five to 11 are eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 from today, with parents rushing to book appointments before the school year returns. This should be good news for most parents as then the children have a shield against the disease or rather the anti-bodies to fight it.
Australia has been home schooling its youth for close to two and a half years as they want to try and curb the virus. Parents found it frustrating initially but then they understood why these extreme precautions taken. But seemingly it is getting out of hand as young children are now becoming anti-social.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) provisionally approved the Pfizer vaccine for use among five to 11-year-olds last month. Research shows the Pfizer vaccine is up to 91 per cent effective in children.
Children will receive two doses of the vaccine, eight weeks apart, and one-third of the dosage given to those aged 12 and over. Schools are set to return at the start of February, with many parents rushing to lock in their child’s first jab before the school year commences. The availability of appointments and vaccine shortages remain of concern, particularly as an estimated 2.3 million children are now eligible.
