Daraz Bangladesh and Swisscontact join forces to support the growth of SMEs

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ Swisscontact Bangladesh and Daraz Bangladesh Ltd have announced a partnership to establish the B-Skilful Programme Phase II to encourage digital marketing platforms among micro, small, and medium-scale businesses (MSMEs) in the leather products, light engineering, and furniture manufacturing industries.

As part of the agreement, Daraz Bangladesh will train the MSMEs on e-commerce and help them in establishing and managing digital stores on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, etc. This will enable small and medium-sized enterprises to interact with a larger consumer base and thereby increase their sales capability. Additionally, small- and medium-sized enterprises will be able to build successful commercial relationships with Daraz Bangladesh, which will result in higher company growth through enhanced marketing methods.

The agreement was signed at Daraz’s Banani headquarters in Dhaka, and the event was attended by Mujibul Hasan, country director; Dajna Sorensen, team leader of the B-SkillFUL Programme from Swisscontact; Corinne Henchoz Pignani, deputy head of cooperation; Ameena Chowdhury, programme manager for income and economic development from the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh; AHM Hassanul Quddus Rusho, chief corporate affairs officer; and Shabbir Hossain, chief commercial officer from Daraz Bangladesh.

During the ceremony, Shabbir Hossain, chief commercial officer of Daraz Bangladesh, expressed delight over the partnership. He said, “Daraz aims to mitigate the digital divide and as part of this vision, this partnership will empower local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses through digital marketplaces”.

The B-SkillFUL Programme Phase II is a four-year skills and enterprise development initiative backed by the Swiss Embassy in Bangladesh and administered by Swisscontact. The program is promoting Business Development Services in minimum 800 MSMEs and provides Workplace-Based Training to a minimum 13,000 new and existing workers in order to increase the productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs and generate better employment opportunities in six districts.
