Hyderabad, India (CU)_ Marking India’s second orbital launch of the year, ISRO successfully launched three satellites for Singapore from its Satish Dhawan Space Centre. The DS-EO satellite was the primary payload with an electro-optical, multispectral payload that will offer full-color photos for land categorization, humanitarian aid, and disaster measures. The weight of the Singapore government satellite was 365 kg.
Singapore’s first compact commercial satellite that carried a synthetic aperture radar imaging technology was NeuSAR and it weighed 155 kg. The satellite was capable of sending images throughout the day, night, and in all types of weather. Scoob-1 satellite was the third payload. Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) constructed the 2.8 kilogram Scoob-1 satellite. SCOOB-I is the first satellite of NTU’s Satellite Research Centre’s Student Satellite Series (S3-I), a practical student training program at NTU.
In addition, the fourth stage of the rocket was used for the first time as a platform for conducting experiments in orbit following payload deployment. POEM carried six payloads, two of which were from Indian Space Startups M/s Digantara and M/s Dhruva Space, which were enabled by IN-SPACe and NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).
Using a specific NGC system, attitude stabilization is achieved. POEM is powered by solar panels installed atop the PS4 tank and a Li-ion battery. It utilizes four solar sensors, a magnetometer, gyros, and NavIC for navigation. POEM is equipped with specific control thrusters that store Helium gas. It also has the telecommand services. This was NSIL’s second commercially focused launch. It was PSLV’s 55th launch, and the 15th project utilizing the PSLV-Core Alone type, and the PSLV’s 16th launch from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan.
Mr David Tan, executive director of Singapore’s space office, the Office for Space Technology and Industry (OSTIn), expressed confidence over the mission, He said, “We are committed to supporting the development of local capabilities in space-based technologies to ensure that Singapore can effectively harness these technologies to serve national needs in domains such as aviation, maritime, climate and sustainability.”
