Singapore (Commonwealth Union)_ The first quarter of 2023 in Singapore will see the debut of an LNG bunker vessel, increasing Singapore’s supply of the ship fuel. The move was announced on Wednesday by Singapore’s Pavilion Energy and Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL). The 116.5 m long by 22 m wide Singapore-flagged ship Brassavola has a 12,000 m3 capacity. Indah Singa Maritime, a MOL subsidiary, owns it, and Pavilion LNG Bunker I, a fully owned subsidiary of Pavilion Energy, will charter it.

According to a statement released by the firms, Pavilion Energy will use the vessel to deliver LNG bunker at Singapore’s port, which is the biggest bunkering port in the world. In addition, as part of a long-term deal with Pavilion Energy, Total Energies Marine Fuels will use Brassavola to provide LNG bunker to its clients. According to Pavilion Energy and MOL, when Brassavola is put into service in the first quarter of 2023, it will be Singapore’s biggest LNG bunker tanker.

Major shippers like CMA CGM and BHP Group are utilizing LNG for a portion of their fleet to reduce emissions, despite the fuel’s costs skyrocketing this year due to Russian gas supply disruptions caused by the conflict in Ukraine. LNG is mostly utilized in the production of electricity. Brassavola is owned by Indah Singa Maritime, a totally owned subsidiary of MOL, and will be rented by Pavilion LNG Bunker, a completely owned subsidiary of Pavilion Energy. In the Port of Singapore, Pavilion Energy will bunker LNG using the new vessel.

The vessel will also be used by Total Energies Marine Fuels to deliver LNG bunker to its clients as part of a long-term deal with Pavilion Energy. “I would want to convey my heartfelt appreciation to all the personnel engaged in this initiative,” said Kenta Matsuzaka, senior managing executive officer of MOL. The LNG Bunkering Vessel Brassavola was built in Singapore as the country’s first.
