Moving from fast fashion to a sustainable future

(Commonwealth Union) – Fashion is finally taking on the trend of sustainability. Sustainable fashion has been around for ages, but it is just that people have not been aware of it. Now with the younger generations coming in and asking questions, it is forcing the industry to look deeper into the solutions.

What we learn from this is that solutions are available, it is just that no one asked the uncomfortable question of how do we implement them. When it comes to the fashion industry, it is understood that the people in it are creative masterminds, they do not see the world in black and white. For them, it’s a spectrum of color and it is a wonderful way to see things. This makes them a little more sensitive to approach when it comes to things like fast fashion.

If you were to speak to any top or high-end designer, one will see that a dress for an example the MET gala would take up to about a month or even three to design and make. Fashion and its creations are creatures of time. The people doing their jobs are used to a certain way of life and for them time is not of the essence as it would be said for a stock broker or surgeon.

Slow fashion is now seen as a thing of the past and the new generation is not here for it. They are looking for quick and fast solutions to all their fashion needs. This means that the fashion houses must step up their game and so far, it is looking good. The one thing this generation does care about is sustainable fashion. Fashion houses have seen how some of them have received heavy backlash because of the unsustainability in their clothing and designs.

So, whilst this question is up in the air about fast and slow fashion it can be said the steps are being taken to make sure that the industry is going in the right direction and although it may take a little time the end products will be worth it.
