Raveena Tandon shares her body shaming experiences in Bollywood

Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_In the 1990s, she was the ideal icon of sensuality. Even though Katrina Kaif replicated her popular song ‘Tip Tip Barsa Paani,’ the bulk of netizens stood for the former’s performance and openly expressed that her oomph factor is incomparable. She is none other than Raveena Tandon, the ‘Mast Mast’ girl. During a recent media interview, Raveena Tandon discussed concerns ranging from body shaming to serious gossip publications that may destroy a person’s career.

When questioned about the old and 90’s gossip magazines, Raveena spoke frankly. She said, “90s gossip magazines were the worst. And some of those ladies, now I see, roaming around now carrying the women’s lib badge over their heads and hearts. They were the worst enemies of women, body-shaming and slut shaming women and doing everything possible to pull another woman down. Today, they roam around being the biggest feminists. I wonder when did that happen? If I start telling stories about them….(chuckles).”

Raveena Tandon is still popular for her physical allure and attractiveness. Common people are not aware that she was ever subjected to industry-wide body shaming. During her chat with Smita Prakash, the actress of “Daman” stated, “No no, Please I was called with a lot of things. 90s ke kholo, TTs, thunder thighs…miss this and miss that…” She added, “I was plump actually. I debuted at 16 and a half years, and I was full of baby fat yaar… which still hasn’t gone. Though I don’t care now, I am being like that. I am like that, too bad!”

Upon being informed that she is manipulating the facts, Raveena stated, “I still remember a few of these titles. And not just me, but some other actresses are also called that. Besides that, instead of encouraging women, what they did was…firstly all these women editors would fall in love with the heroes. And what the heroes said was the final statement. If he wished to pan a woman, the woman would be panned, shamed, embarrassed, and literally, her career would be ruined in the magazines with nasty reports being published about her”.

The actress added, “There were so many fake articles published because some hero went and said, “Acha, uske bare me aab aisa likh do…(Okay, let’s write about her like this)” and it would be the final word. And if there would be an apology, that would be printed on the last line of some other editions of the magazine. It would be written ‘the previous story carried earlier ultimately proved to be false’. And who will read that then? By that time, the screaming headlines had already made the news, right?” Raveena Tandon stated that she was completely dissatisfied with the ‘viciousness’ of journalism in the 1990s and opted to take a break following her marriage.
