South Africa ( Commonwealth Union ) _ Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the recently appointed minister of electricity, expressed his gratitude to Ramaphosa for his faith in him. In order to address the country’s energy crisis, he acknowledged a long path lay ahead. But they needed to get to work and make sure that the nation had a steady supply of electricity. Ramokgopa expressed his optimism that the nation’s problems related to the energy crisis would be overcome.
Ramokgopa further highlighted that the energy crisis that our nation is currently experiencing is a huge responsibility for us to complete. Our immediate task is to stabilze our energy supply and improve the operation of current power plants while expanding the grid’s capacity. He stated that he believes they would be able to tackle load shedding, but he does not want to commit to timelines as he needs to go to the ground when he visits every power station at Eskom.
During the past few months, Eskom has been imposing power outages, costing businesses billions of rands and in order to address this energy problem, Ramaphosa stated last month that he will name an electrical minister.
Moreover, Paul Mashatile, the deputy president-designate, on the other hand, expressed excitement about his upcoming position as second in command at the Union Buildings and head of government and business.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa named him the nation’s deputy president. David Mabuza, who had stated in February that he was quitting the administration because Mashatile had to step in after his election at Nasrec, is replaced by Mashatile. Mashatile was appointed with numerous ministers in the Cabinet shake-up by the president.
