Brunei (Commonwealth Union)_ The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) has reported that the average maximum temperature in Brunei during April is 32.7 degrees Celsius (C) based on climatological records. The BDMD’s Brunei International Airport Meteorological Observation Station has recorded maximum daily temperatures ranging between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius for the month. During the inter-monsoon period, local atmospheric effects play a significant role in determining the daily weather in the Sultanate.

Over the past few days, Brunei has witnessed sunny and hot weather during the day, with isolated coastal rainfall occurring around midday. In the afternoon, isolated rainfall or thunderstorms also occurred in inland regions, eventually spreading to a few coastal and marine regions during the night. However, the weather over Brunei is expected to be active this week owing to the presence of a low-pressure system in the region. The low pressure will result in unstable and moist atmospheric conditions, which are conducive to the formation of rain clouds. Additionally, it may also bring about windy conditions that can be turbulent at times, particularly during heavy rainfall over the country.

According to the BDMD, several regions of the country are expected to experience showers that are intermittently intense and thundery. Additionally, a wind burst of up to 40 kilometers per hour is possible during or near intense thunderstorms. The sea condition over Brunei waters is typically calm, with wave heights between 0.3 and 0.6 meters. The public is advised to take precautionary measures in light of the anticipated active weather conditions. During continuous heavy rain and high tide, there is also a risk of sudden flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas as well as near riverbanks.

Further, the public, road users, and fishermen are urged to stay abreast of the most recent weather forecast, advisory, and warning issued by BDMD, and to take appropriate safety precautions. The Brunei WX mobile app from BDMD provides access to the most recent weather data, advisories, and warnings. In addition, the duty meteorological forecaster at the BDMD Forecast Centre, the Weather Line 114, the website www.met.gov.bn, Facebook (@bruneiweather), Instagram (@brunei.weather), and Telegram Channel (Brunei Weather) can provide the most recent weather information.
