Research agreement inked between UK and India

Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – A new agreement was signed between the UK and India recently for science, research and innovation for the UK-India Science and Innovation Council in Parliament. Since Brexit the UK has had greater freedom to pursue new agreements with many nations across the world. In recent years ties between the UK and India have rapidly increased.

In the landmark agreement that was signed on Wednesday, is set to move forward in partnerships for science and innovation, after UK Science Minister George Freeman and Indian Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh met.

The memorandum of understanding on research for the 2 nations was signed in Parliament paving the way for faster, deeper partnerships on science that is set to bring about increased economic activities, bring about skilled jobs while enhancing the lives in the UK, India, and across the globe according to a statement.

The agreement is set to take away obstacles for key partnerships, while bringing about a series of new joint research projects aimed at bringing progress on some of the most serious challenges facing the globe, such as climate change as well as pandemic preparedness through to Artificial Intelligence and machine learning.

Some of the Programmes set to get underway are a new UK-India Net Zero Innovation Virtual Centre that draws its attention to industrial decarbonization and the launch of the very 1st UK-India scientific deep-sea voyage.

Minister of State for the new Department for Science, Innovation and Technology George Freeman indicated that India was fast building on its phenomenal software as well as innovation sectors making it a global power in science and technology.

“With our extensive trading and cultural links, shared democratic values and interest in urgent global issues from green technology and agri-tech to biosecurity and pandemic preparedness, we have very strong platforms for deepening research collaboration,” he said.
