The 45th edition of the Asian Summit on Remote Sensing, a forum organized by the Asian Association on Remote Sensing (AARS) will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2024. A convention dedicated to promoting the concept of Remote Sensing for environmental monitoring, the Minister of Tourism and Lands Harin Fernando received the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to be the hosting country for the 45th Asian Summit on Remote sensing next year.

The summit will convene over five days in Colombo during the October-November period in 2024.

The Asian Association on Remote Sensing is a non-governmental organization that was founded in 1981 with the motive of promoting Remote Sensing; a science of retrieving information about an object or phenomenon without making physical contact. The AARS in its mission to exchange knowledge and information on the vast scope of Remote Sensing and other fields of interest including photogrammetry and spatial sciences, has gathered countries in the Asia-Pacific region to engage in meaningful conversations, mutual cooperation, international understanding, and goodwill amongst member states.

The AARS has over 29 member countries and is one of the largest organizations dedicated to the scope of Remote Sensing.

Sri Lanka, recognizing the importance of applying Remote Sensing technologies in national development affairs, is an opening member of the AARS, with a delegation of general members, related members, and sustainable members.

The 2023 Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS 2023) will be hosted by the Chinese(Taipei) Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, National Central University, and the AARS in Taipei from October 30th to November 3rd, 2023. The ACRS is the official technical meeting and yearly gathering of the AARS which welcomes all countries and regions in the world to partake in discussions related to photogrammetry, remote sensing, and spatial information sciences.
