Singapore (Global News) _While the world’s first upcycled skyscraper won Australia the World’s best building for 2022 title, this year 250 futuristic buildings which have been constructed on the premise of sustainability were shortlisted at the World Architecture Festival Awards. From a skyscraper that’s bursting with trees in Singapore to a serene mosque in Dubai that’s all about light to an eleven-story giant panda breeding research facility in China, the shortlisted buildings are not just eye-catching, but they are futuristic and very much on the green spectrum.  It’s one of these shortlisted buildings that will vie for the World’s Best Building Award 2023 in December this year.

Judged across eighteen categories that include commercial, residential, and cultural architecture, category winners will compete for the prestigious overall prize, while there are also prizes for the best in landscape architecture, proposed future projects, and interior design. Evaluated by a 140-strong expert panel, the judging will be conducted live. Each of the shortlisted buildings is a stark reminder of the world’s numerous crises of climate change, food insecurity, species extinction, and physical and mental well-being, areas which architects address daily in creating a better world.

Others who made the shortlist include Boston University’s Center for Computing & Data Sciences, Oman Across Ages Museum which is a new cultural institution in the ancient city of Nizwa, Angsila Oyster Scaffolding Pavilion, the fully functioning oyster farm and eco-tourism destination built in a Thai fishing village, a hydrogen station in Tokushima prefecture in Japan, China’s curvaceous E-sports center and  the temporary Bamboo Dome built by local craftsmen and artisans in Bali Indonesia for the G20 summit last year. Newark Liberty International Airport’s recently opened Terminal A, Australia’s Holocaust Museum in Melbourne and new national stadiums in both Cambodia and Senegal are also among the contenders.
