The US military says it has carried out another series of attacks on Iran. The strikes target Iran‘s capacity to launch attacks on ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz. The latest attacks mark the 10th night in a row of US military action against Iran.
They come after US President Donald Trump promised to respond to the deaths of three American service members. Trump said Iran. Trump stated that the previous round of attacks had heavily impacted Iran. The previous round of attacks had a heavy impact on Iran. He said the strikes were carried out in memory of the US soldiers killed in recent attacks in Jordan and Iraq.
US Central Command said the latest strikes targeted several military sites in Iran. These included command centres, missile and drone launch locations, air defence systems and naval facilities. Centcom also said commercial ships were still travelling through the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is one of the world’s most important routes for oil shipments.
Iran, however, said it had attacked two oil tankers in the strait. It also claimed to have targeted US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait. Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that rescue teams were working to remove the crews from the damaged tankers.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency also said a tanker had reported being hit by an unknown object in the Strait of Hormuz. The crew reportedly left the vessel and boarded a lifeboat. It remains unclear whether the vessel was one of the tankers mentioned by Iran.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the country was now involved in a “full-scale war” with the United States.Despite the growing violence, both sides are reportedly still exchanging diplomatic messages through intermediaries. This comes after a ceasefire between the two countries broke down.
The conflict has also affected other countries in the region. Jordan said it had destroyed three Iranian missiles after air raid warnings were issued. Kuwait reported intercepting Iranian drones.Bahrain also said Iranian drones had targeted air navigation systems. However, the country said air traffic had not been disrupted.
Iranian media previously reported explosions in several cities following earlier US strikes. These included Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak and areas near major ports.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed that two oil tankers had exploded while using a dangerous route through the Strait of Hormuz. The US military rejected the claim.The latest developments have increased fears that the conflict could spread across the wider Middle East.
