Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ Alhambra Hotels celebrated a momentous milestone today, commemorating five decades of unwavering dedication to hospitality excellence. What began as a visionary endeavor by founding Chairman Jabir A. Cader has evolved into a cornerstone of Colombo’s hospitality landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

Originally conceived as a modern cinema, Alhambra Hotels adapted to the changing tides of the tourism industry, seizing opportunities presented by the ‘Tourism Development Act’ and forging a pivotal partnership with the Holiday Inn group in 1974. This collaboration propelled Alhambra Hotels into the international spotlight, establishing it as a premier destination for travellers.

Central to its success was the introduction of the first-ever North Indian restaurant, Alhambra, renowned for its tantalizing Moghul Cuisine and signature dishes such as the famous Mutton Biryani. This culinary innovation solidified Alhambra Hotels’ reputation as a culinary destination, setting new standards of excellence in gastronomy.

In 2009, Alhambra Hotels underwent a transformative rebranding, becoming Ramada by Wyndham Colombo—a testament to its commitment to modernization and luxury. Partnering with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts brought access to global resources and initiatives, including sustainability efforts aimed at reducing energy consumption and supporting local communities.

Reflecting on the journey, Managing Director Imthiaz Cader recalls pivotal moments, including the challenging economic climate of 2005-2009. Despite adversity, Alhambra Hotels persevered, adapting to evolving circumstances and emerging stronger than ever.

Chairman Fahmy Cader, following in his father’s footsteps, emphasizes the importance of resilience and hard work in achieving success. His leadership, coupled with strategic refurbishments, has propelled Alhambra Hotels to new heights of excellence.

As Alhambra Hotels celebrates its golden jubilee, it remains committed to fostering a nurturing work environment and upholding the legacy of authentic Sri Lankan hospitality. Director M. Shanthikumar highlights the hotel’s resilience in the face of adversity, standing as a beacon of hope and hospitality for guests worldwide.

General Manager Wasim Cader underscores the importance of the hotel’s dedicated staff, acknowledging their role as the driving force behind its success. Despite challenges such as Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, Alhambra Hotels remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence.

Looking ahead, Alhambra Hotels is poised to continue its legacy of hospitality innovation, embracing technological advancements and stakeholder feedback to maintain its position as a premier establishment in the country. As it embarks on the next chapter of its journey, Alhambra Hotels expresses gratitude to all who have contributed to its success and looks forward to a future filled with optimism and excitement.
