New leadership at the National University of Singapore

Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ The National University of Singapore (NUS) has announced the appointment of three new members to its board of trustees, including two prominent Indian-origin professionals, Justice Judith Prakash and Ravi Menon.

Joining them is Tan Chong Meng, marking a significant addition to the prestigious university’s leadership.

All three appointees are NUS alumni and will commence their terms on April 1, bringing with them a wealth of experience and expertise.

Ravi Menon, the former managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), boasts a distinguished career in finance and governance. He currently serves as the chairman of Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) Asia-Pacific Network advisory board and is actively involved in various philanthropic initiatives, including the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA).

Justice Judith Prakash, a senior judge with over 30 years of experience on the Supreme Court Bench, brings invaluable legal acumen to the board. As the first woman appointed as a permanent judge of the Court of Appeal, she has a strong background in arbitration and governance, making her a valuable addition to the NUS leadership.

Bringing a wealth of experience in strategic management and industry leadership, Tan Chong Meng, former group CEO of port operator PSA International, joins the team with a proven track record. His significant contributions to organizations like Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) and the World Economic Forum’s Supply Chain & Transport Industry Community highlight his commitment to driving impactful change.

Chairman of the NUS board of trustees, Hsieh Fu Hua, extends a warm welcome to the new members, recognizing their diverse backgrounds and valuable perspectives. He emphasizes their pivotal role in guiding the university’s trajectory amid a rapidly evolving landscape. With their expertise and insights, the new members are poised to contribute significantly to NUS’s continued growth and success in navigating the complexities of the modern academic and industry landscape.

The NUS board of trustees, comprising 20 members, plays a pivotal role in shaping the university’s vision and initiatives. Appointed by the Minister for Education, the board works closely with the university’s management and stakeholders to chart its major directions and ensure its continued success.
