The PM pointed out that eighty years ago, the weather cleared, and the greatest invasion force in history left the shores of Britain to liberate Europe.

He then stated that they were gathered to remember the sacrifice of the tens of thousands who never made it home.

In honoring the service of those who did return, he mentioned men like Ken Cooke who at 18 years old, had never been on a boat or a beach before.

Sunak gave further accounts of other brave soldiers in the speech and said “You risked everything. And we owe you everything.”

“We cannot possibly hope to repay that debt.”

“But we can – and we must – pledge never to forget.”

“After the war, many of you dedicated your lives to telling the story of what happened here.”
