Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ The Indian community in Warsaw is eagerly anticipating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Poland, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years. This historic visit, scheduled from August 21-23, coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland, a milestone that adds to the excitement.
Members of the Indian diaspora have expressed their enthusiasm, praising PM Modi for his contributions to India’s growth. Saurabh Gilitwala, who moved to Poland from Mumbai seven years ago, emphasized the significance of this visit, noting the long gap since an Indian leader last visited Poland. He shared his appreciation for PM Modi, highlighting how initiatives like the Khel Mahakumbh, which Modi launched as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, have fostered a sense of self-reliance among Indians.
Ajay Sharma, who has lived in Poland for six years and established his own business there, echoed this sentiment. He described the growing excitement within the Indian community, with many planning to travel to Warsaw just to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister. Sharma expressed hope that PM Modi’s visit will further strengthen the cultural and business ties between India and Poland.
Gaurav Singh, President of the Indian Students Union, also conveyed the community’s eagerness. He pointed out that PM Modi’s visits to various countries over the past decade have always been well-received, and now, Indians in Poland are thrilled to welcome him. Singh hopes the visit will foster stronger ties between the two nations, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
Jenesh, a long-term resident of Poland, is optimistic about the potential impact of the visit, particularly in boosting trade and addressing labor shortages in Poland. He believes that enhanced trade agreements could create new opportunities for both countries.
Karishma, another member of the Indian diaspora, expressed her admiration for PM Modi’s role in India’s development. She is especially excited about the prospect of meeting him, describing it as a “dream come true.”
The Ministry of External Affairs has underscored the significance of this visit, calling it a “landmark” moment in India-Poland relations. MEA Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, including Poland’s assistance during the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022. During the visit, PM Modi will meet with Polish leaders, including President Andrzej Duda, and engage with the Indian community, business leaders, and scholars in Warsaw.
