According to the president of the New York-based group, Ian Bremmer, Russia’s emergence as the most dangerous rogue state in the world poses the greatest geopolitical threat to the planet.
Although the Kremlin has been careful to keep its war in Ukraine to a minimum, Bremmer and the group’s chairman Cliff Kupchan, who co-authored the analysis, said Moscow’s strategy of dividing the West is failing and that it may abandon caution and begin making more direct threats to use nuclear weapons.
According to their study, the political turmoil in the United States, which Bremmer referred to as the “Divided States of America,” poses the greatest risk to Canada.
According to him, the toxic political climate in Washington and the rest of the United States is leaking over the border and is only going to become worse over the course of the next 12 months.
He noted that Canada continues to be “an economically stable, well-functioning democratic democracy,” which is wonderful news. Bremmer, however, predicted a scenario in which Canadian federalism would suffer as provinces like Alberta and Ontario forged tighter links with similar-minded American states. Bremmer also cautioned Canada against being complacent in the face of attacks against politicians.
