A petition issued by India to Sri Lanka in the event of the death of a fisherman

Three Indian fisherman have been found dead in an incident involving the Sri Lankan navy and India has issued a petition for more information as well as investigation for the three deaths.

The incident took place when a naval vessel from Sri Lanka collided with an Indian vessel and the Indian External affairs minister was shocked and was saddened by the loss of the three Indian lives along with one Sri Lankan life.

“Expressing our deep anguish at the loss of lives, we emphasized the need to deal with issues pertaining to fishermen in a humanitarian manner. Existing understandings between the two Governments in that regard must be strictly observed. Utmost efforts should be made to ensure that there is no recurrence,” the Indian External Affairs Ministry said.

The Sri Lankan Navy found the bodies of 2 Indian fisherman on Wednesday after their boat sank on impact with the Navy vessel. The spokesperson said the diving team found the 2 bodies northwest of the delft island and the fact that the trawlers sank after resisting arrest northwest of the delft island.

The navy further went to state that more than 50 Indian trawlers have been found crossing international waters and entering Sri Lankan waters and it was then that they resisted surrender to the navy and the vessels collided. The collision also caused damage to the Navy Fast Attack Craft which was brought to the Kankesanthurai harbor for repairs.
